dc.description.abstract | This thesis examines the impact of climate change and migration on Mumbai, India's financial and cultural capital. Geospatial analysis is used to identify the top states that contribute migrants to Mumbai, and potential reasons for migration, with a focus on climate-related factors. The study analyzes flood risks for vulnerable populations such as those with a low socioeconomic status, women, children, and individuals from scheduled castes and tribes. The findings reveal that individuals with a lower socioeconomic status are more exposed to flooding, while the other vulnerable groups are not. The study also conducts a spatial analysis to predict the impact of different emissions scenarios on flooding in 2050 and 2100. Based on interviews with stakeholders in India, including academics, journalists, and NGOs, the thesis provides policy recommendations to reduce migration to Mumbai, address climate resilience, aid vulnerable populations, and improve international frameworks. Overall, this thesis highlights the need for urgent action to mitigate the impact of climate change on vulnerable populations in Mumbai and other similar cities. | en_US |
