Abstract: This dissertation is about conflation, the phenomenon of treating distinct things as if they are the same. I use observations about conflation to develop novel theses on familiar topics in the philosophy of mind and philosophy of language. Some of the terrain covered includes: determining when you and I are thinking the same thought, the grounds for mental content, the conditions under which we do and ought to distinguish things, and different ways in which a mental representation can aptly be said to have “multiple meanings”.
