Title: Reviving New Orleans: Bounce as a Queer Method of Survival/Revival Post-Katrina
Authors: Hodges, Ashley
Advisors: Guild, Joshua
Department: African American Studies
Class Year: 2021
Abstract: This thesis explores the potentialities of New Orleans' Bounce music and its influence on queer Bounce artists and New Orleans more broadly in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina. Using New Orleans' history and artists interviews, I trace the interconnectedness of deviance, desire, and disaster pre- and post-Katrina. I assert Bounce's existence as a lubricant for queer Black sociality in the context of refuge and recovery.
