Abstract: | The paper explores whether the gender reforms implemented by the communist governments of Russia and China created lasting change, especially with respect to domestic violence. It concludes that the totalitarian communist government style and its top-down approach to reform in women's issue failed to create lasting cultural change, and compares with the progress made recently by globalization and internet access. |
