This survey, commissioned by the New York City Administration for Children's Services (ACS), reports on the proportion of LGBTQAI+ youth in New York City foster care, and the experiences and well-being of these youth, is the outcome of several years of work, involving several institutions and many individuals, in a variety of roles. The survey is inspired by and modeled after the first similar study carried out by The Williams Institute in Los Angeles and reported as “Sexual and gender minority youth in foster care: Assessing disproportionality and disparities in Los Angeles” (Wilson, Cooper, Kastansis & Nezhad, 2014). The current survey adopted a similar research methodology. The questionnaire used by the Williams Institute was a starting point for the instrument used in the current survey.en_US
