Abstract: | Educational inequality and racial disparities have been a prominent, ongoing issues for low- income Black students in the United States. Despite efforts to resolve these issues, Black students continue to face significant challenges when it comes to obtaining a quality education and opportunities that may help them succeed. This thesis investigates the factors that contribute to the inequality that low-income Black students experience at educational institutions, including systemic racism, poverty, parenting, inadequate resources, and discriminatory policies. It does so by asking fifteen respondents in-depth questions about their experiences with the educational system. This paper then highlights the importance of resolving these issues through means such as increasing funding for schools in low-income areas, providing access to educational resources and opportunities, and tackling racial biases in the education system. By addressing these problems, the US can work towards a more equitable education system and ensure that all students have the opportunity to succeed, regardless of their race or socioeconomic status. |
