Abstract: A socioeconomic study of the transformation of confederate Georgia; from the introduction of colonial slavery to the resort era in the 21st century. This thesis looks at socioeconomic transformations and life in the Golden Isles of Georgia within the antebellum era, the fall of slavery in the civil war, and the aftermath of war in Reconstruction before turning to the legacy of the 20th & 21st centuries which heralded a new economic transformation.
