LA ISLA DEL ENCANTO: THE ISLAND OF ENCHANTMENT OR THE ISLAND FORGOTTEN? An Investigation Into La Reforma’s Impact on the Quality of Health Among Elderly Populations in Puerto Rico

Abstract

I conducted this investigation using a three-pronged approach: literary analysis of life history interviews and the workings of an insurance company as illustrated in the book Unmanageable Care: An Ethnography of Health Care Privatization in Puerto Rico by Dr. Jessica M. Mulligan, mortality data analysis of different disease from the reform’s implementation in 1994 till 2021, and expert interviews.
