Title: LA ISLA DEL ENCANTO: THE ISLAND OF ENCHANTMENT OR THE ISLAND FORGOTTEN? An Investigation Into La Reforma’s Impact on the Quality of Health Among Elderly Populations in Puerto Rico

Abstract: I conducted this investigation using a three-pronged approach: literary analysis of life history interviews and the workings of an insurance company as illustrated in the book Unmanageable Care: An Ethnography of Health Care Privatization in Puerto Rico by Dr. Jessica M. Mulligan, mortality data analysis of different disease from the reform’s implementation in 1994 till 2021, and expert interviews. The results revealed a mixed set of reviews on the impact of the reform on elderly populations: while it is true that most people could access more options for quality care, a I conducted this investigation using a three-pronged approach: literary analysis of life history interviews and the workings of an insurance company as illustrated in the book Unmanageable Care: An Ethnography of Health Care Privatization in Puerto Rico by Dr. Jessica M.
