Abstract: | In this expository paper, we present a proof of the fact that amongst all metrics on the annulus, the maximum of 𝜎1𝐿, with 𝜎1 the first nonzero Steklov eigenvalue and 𝐿 the boundary length, is uniquely achieved by the critical catenoid. The bulk of this argument is contained in articles [1] and [2] of Fraser and Schoen. |
