| Abstract: | This paper examines the nature of the discourse on the soul in Islamic philosophy. Using the scholarship of Imam abu Hamid al-Ghazālī as a case study, it argues that the discourse is primarily ethical, not metaphysical. Thus, it is fundamentally different from an analogous discourse within modern Materialist theory. |
