Abstract: A universal filter for binaural recordings is produced to improve upon standard methods of equalization. Experiments exploring binaural recording reproduction are conducted to determine the factors influencing an adequate equalization filter. It is found that the equalization does not depend on anything from recording side. Utilizing simulations, standard equalization filters are tested in three different playback environments and for different listeners. An analysis of performance of the different filters over certain frequency bands and how those change for different playback conditions lead to the prescription of a universal filter. Upon implementing the prescribed filter, it is shown to outperform the standard equalization filters and good robustness to changes in the playback environment.
