By utilizing a critical-creative format, this thesis explores the function of the photograph as both a medium and affective concept in Woolf's Orlando and Dazai's No Longer Human. The purpose of the creative element was to imbue the reader with that heavy, tugging feeling of an unknown loss. As such, the critical work itself is approached by a fictional narrator who is writing to a person called C—.
